Characters

The Inquisitor generally attracts people of status and influence. Below is a list of characters you will encounter in the game. Some of them will be in your party. Each party member has a signature "look" that, while you can change their armour, they will retain a certain style. For example, Cassandra will always have a long piece of fabric hanging behind her.

Cassandra Pentaghast, Hero of Orlais (PARTY MEMBER)

  • Human Female Warrior
  • A member of the Nevarran Royal family.
  • Seeker of Truth.
  • Known as the "Right Hand of the Divine" after she stopped an attempted coup in the Chantry and mage assassination of Divine Beatrix III.
  • Works with Leliana in Dragon Age II's epilogue to find Hawke and The Warden.
  • She interrogates Varric Tethras, who in Dragon Age: Inquisition is a travelling companion of hers.
  • Cassandra's outfit has been described as a "kind of trench coat with armour underneath".

Varric Tethras, Merchant Prince (PARTY MEMBER)
  • Dwarf Male Rogue
  • A returning party member from Dragon Age II
  • Fights with a unique crossbow called Bianca
  • After the events of Dragon Age II, he travelled to Orlais and Tevinter with King Alistair of Ferelden and the pirate Isabela, on a quest to find the missing King Maric, stopping Aurelian Titus from coming to power.

Vivienne, Circle Enchanter (PARTY MEMBER)
  • Human Female Mage
  • An Orlesian mage who is extremely pro-Circle
  • She was in line to become the First Enchanter in one of the two Circles in Orlais (either White Spire or Montsimmard), but the Mage-Templar War and the Orlesian Civil War started before she could formally assume the position. (Speculation: I am guessing this is the Montsimmard Circle, as it is established in Dragon Age: Asunder that after the death of First Enchanter Edmonde, Adrian was elected to be the new First Enchanter of the White Spire)
  • She joins the Inquisition to help her fellow mages however she can.

Morrigan, Witch of the Wilds
  • Human Female Mage
  • The daughter of Flemeth and an unknown Chasind man, she travelled with The Warden during Dragon Age: Origins, and if the Warden survived the battle fathered a child with either him (for male Wardens) or Alistair (for female Wardens) or even Teyrn Loghain (for those who chose him over Alistair in the Landsmeet) that housed the soul the Archdemon the father defeated to end the Blight.
  • In Witch Hunt, she disappeared into the Eluvian, either alone, accompanied by the Warden (father of the child), or with a stab wound given to her by the Warden.
  • Her role in Dragon Age: Inquisition has been teased by David Gaider, saying "it's not just a cameo"- hinting that she's a major player in the world of Thedas.
  • We will learn more of Morrigan's activities between Witch Hunt and Dragon Age: Inquisition, and the Old God Baby will not just be brushed under the rug.

Flemeth, Witch of the Wilds
  • Human?? Female Mage
  • Not much is known of Flemeth's involvement, just that we will learn more about her nature.

Leliana, Orlesian Bard and Left Hand of the Divine
  • Human Female Rogue
  • A former Orlesian bard who travelled with the Grey Warden in Dragon Age: Origins.
  • Even if killed in Dragon Age: Origins, she survives and appears in Dragon Age II. First in The Exiled Prince DLC as "Sister Nightingale" investigating the rebel mages, secondly in the Mark of the Assassin DLC as a guest of Duke Prosper, and finally in the games epilogue talking to Cassandra Pentaghast about her hunt for Hawke and The Warden.
  • In Dragon Age: Asunder, she (acting on orders from Divine Justinia V) assists the mages in their escape from the White Spire, revealing that Divine Justinia was in fact conspiring against the Templar Order. When this is brought to light, they break away. Leliana was last seen singing at Wynne's funeral. (Wynne had sacrificed herself to save her son's love interest, Knight-Captain Evangeline de Brassard).
  • She hasn't been confirmed, but people at GameInformer have said they saw evidence of a "red-haired Orlesian" during a visit.

Cullen, Templar Knight-Captain
  • Human Male Warrior
  • Not a party member at any point, but a fan-favourite nonetheless.
  • In Dragon Age: Origins, his role was brief. Captured by Uldred during the Broken Tower quest. In Dragon Age II, however, he is second in command of the Templar forces in Kirkwall under Knight-Commander Meredith Stannard. Initially apprehensive to the Mages due to his experiences in Ferelden, he eventually tells Meredith she's gone too far and helps Hawke in the final battle. If Hawke sided with the Templars in the game, Cullen appoints him Viscount of Kirkwall.
  • Again, like Leliana, the presence of a "fan-favourite Knight-Captain" was hinted by GameInformer, and the character's voice actor tweeted he was doing a Cullen voice session, but that was quickly removed.
